The key to solving challenges lies in the field.
The ground is inherently variable, differing significantly from one location to another. As a result, every project presents its own challenges—whether related to safety, cost efficiency, or environmental protection. I believe the key to addressing these challenges lies in the field. By integrating site investigations with laboratory testing and analysis, we develop ground models that accurately reflect actual site conditions.
Geotechnical investigation plays a vital role in supporting the safety and sustainable development of society through specialized expertise. As a technical service, our role is not only to conduct advanced investigations, but also to communicate results in a clear and meaningful way to our clients. We describe this philosophy as being “Earth Doctors.” Just as physicians listen carefully, assess conditions, and make accurate diagnoses, we interpret ground conditions, organize complex phenomena, and deliver effective solutions to the challenges at hand. We also value building relationships in which clients feel comfortable consulting us, even about the smallest concerns. Geotechnical investigation involves navigating what lies beneath the surface—conditions that are not directly visible and are inherently open to interpretation. It is therefore essential to clearly identify uncertainties and progressively mitigate associated risks as a project advances. We consider it a core principle to engage with data with sincerity and precision, and to ensure its accurate and reliable translation into design and construction.
Advancing Seamless Onshore–Offshore Investigations
In recent years, addressing the challenges of coastal development has become more critical than ever. At the same time, investigations at the interface between land and sea have often been fragmented. Drawing on our extensive experience in seabed resource exploration and active fault investigations since the 1970s, we are determined to take a leading role in advancing “seamless onshore–offshore investigations” that treat both domains as a continuous whole. To support this, we are also focusing on the development and deployment of agile and versatile survey methods capable of operating effectively even in shallow waters.
Our work is not limited to development projects. In the event of disasters, we promptly mobilize to affected areas to investigate causes and support recovery efforts, including the design of countermeasures. The knowledge and technologies gained through these activities are also applied to preventive maintenance through advanced investigations. In this way, contributing to disaster prevention and mitigation is one of the key roles our technologies play in society. Looking ahead, we will continue to uphold our field-oriented expertise and sincere approach, striving to be a trusted engineering partner in geology and geotechnics. Through our work, we aim to contribute to a society where people and nature coexist, and where safety and peace of mind are ensured.
